Hi Members

Our first newsletter for the New Year, a belated Happy New Year to you all, may it be a good one.

As mentioned last Sunday, our first Have-a-Go takes place on Easter Monday, 24 March at Sewerby Hall. In past years this event has been very profitable for us as a club due to the hard work of certain members.
So I ask again, if you can spare a couple of hours please come along and help out whether it be to set up, gather the arrows , take the money or dish out the lollipops for those who burst the balloon.
And remember any profits we make benefit the whole club as this money is used to purchase new equipment etc. And as you all know, archery equipment is not cheap!

During November last year, Pete, Sue and Terry attended a Child Protection seminar, so now all three are certified (in more ways than one!!). Well done to them and thanks for taking time to attend.

Some of you may know that Terry has been trying to renew his Coaching certificate (for 3 years or so), and has had many problems trying to do so. As a last ditch attempt he has been in contact with a Coach in Hull who is happy to add Terry to his next coaching session for a 2 hour period so we are all hopeful that this resolves the problem.

The Spring beginners´ course will commence on 6 April and your patience and co-operation would be appreciated during this time. We will all be shooting along the same line i.e. the football pitch sideline. The beginners will be at the far end adjacent to the public footpath. So be aware there will be 2 Field Captains and 2 whistles. Terry has asked me to take the role of Field Captain whist he is with the beginners and we have agreed to set up a "waiting area" 5 yards back from the shooting line. This means all equipment and archers will use this area when not shooting. This will give a clear path through for the beginners to get through if needed.
Whilst on the subject, the beginners will take priority for the use of club equipment during this time, so if you wish to use club bows etc, please ensure all beginners have been equipped first.

Terry has just confirmed the annual Panda shoot will be on Sunday 22 June 2008. Brid Archers will be hosting this friendly competition between us and Panda Bowmen of Leeds (Terry´s old Club). The competition is open to all archers in the club but the trophy is for Novice archers only. This will be the fourth year the event has been run, and we have won the trophy every year, so let´s make sure we kick butt again.

Our last club competition was another success with a great turnout; it´s great to see so many members on these cold frosty mornings. Congratulations to all those that won medals, and commiserations to those that didn´t, better luck next time! Thanks must go again to David and Carole Reaney for continuing to organize these shoots.
If anyone is interested in entering competitions in the county, please check the notice board in the target shed as I pin all entry forms up there as I receive them. There is also an envelope on the board from Sue Thurling containing your handicap scores for this year, so if you haven´t picked yours up, check there.

Indoor shooting continues for a few more weeks at Brandesburton Village Hall on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and outdoor as always on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. At the moment afternoon shooting is between 11.30 ish and 3 ish, and as the weather improves (fingers crossed) shooting will commence around 1pm. Again as the weather improves shooting can continue till light fades. I´m still waiting for the "lovely warm evenings" someone told me about!!

Finally, congratulations to Sarah and Steve Dixon on the birth of baby Cordelia Isabelle who was born 3rd January 2008. I know I´m a bit late mentioning it but I did forward the info to those that know Sarah and Steve and I did send a card from us all. Look forward to seeing you both at the field soon.

That´s all folks Happy shooting.

Pat
